The Great A.R.S. Shootout Nets an Extra $455 in Donations This Year Over Last
- 10/12/2011
The second year of the Great ARS Shootout proved better than the first, as area golfers and corporate sponsors contributed $1,250 for local fire departments. The amount was $455, or 57 percent, more than the proceeds raised for firefighters at last year’s tournament.
Twenty-five players and nine corporate sponsors had a share in this year’s benefit, which was held in balmy weather under clear skies on Tuesday, October 11, 2011, at the Bedford Country Club.
The $1,250 raised went to five local fire departments: Bedford $816.66, Corning $66.67, Gravity $200.00, Lenox $66.67 and Shenandoah $100.00.
Participating sponsors included Simmons Agency, Bedford, Akin Building Center, Clarinda, First National Bank, Creston, Hy-Vee, Bedford, Casey's General Stores, Bedford, Bedford Area Development Center, Bedford, Mark Johnson Communications, Omaha, Left Hand Man Embroidery Design & Graphic Arts, Bedford and Advanced Restoration Services, Bedford.

A Hole-in-One at Hole 7 would have awarded the winner with $10,000. Unfortunately, no one was able to claim the prize this year.

Team "Villars Vanquishers" (Mark Johnson Communications) had high hopes of taking the prize at Hole 7. Clockwise from upper left: Andrew Cox, Colby Shenkle, Mark Johnson and Tim Dinges.

Colby Shenkle of Mark Johnson Communications (aka “Villars Vanquishers”) strikes a ball from the tee of the par-three No. 7, as Mark Johnson watches. Shenkle failed to hole the shot, which would have netted a $10,000 prize.

Rob Villars, ARS President, and Jamie Wymore of Team "Fabulous Few".

If there had been a prize for "Most Interesting Hole-in-One" Kyle Laughry, Team "Bogey Men," would have won it. He holed a trash can 250-yards+ from the No. 5 tee.

Team "Epic Fail," left to right: Zach & Tori Villars and Nubia & Ryan Miller (ARS Marketing Manager).

Nubia Miller saves Team "Epic Fail" from Total Fail by winning Ladies' Closest to the Pin. Her prize is a golf-themed grilling set.
